Plane Crashed In Peru With 99 On Board And Only One Survived

LANSA Flight 508 was a Lockheed L-188A Electra turboprop, registered OB-R-941, and was operated as a scheduled domestic passenger flight by Lineas Aéreas Nacionales Sociedad Anonima (LANSA),

It crashed in a thunderstorm en route from Lima, Peru to Pucallpa, Peru, on December 24, 1971, and ninety one people on the plane died.

A Miracle? Or Fate And Destiny?

The sole survivor was 17-year-old Juliane Koepcke, who fell 2 miles (3 km) down into the Amazon rain forest, still strapped to her seat, and she remarkably survived the fall.

And was then able to walk through the jungle for ten days until she was rescued by local lumbermen!

Who Was On Board?

Over half of the passengers belonged to a single group, which was sponsored by the Buffalo, a NY based International Fellowship student exchange program.

The group consisted of forty nine American high school exchange students, along with their teachers, family members, and guides.

When And How Did It Happen?

At about 2:55 pm, the plane began its takeoff, but at some point during the takeoff run or on initial climb, the number three engine failed and caught fire.

The crew continued the takeoff and climb, per standard procedure, using power from the remaining three engines.

The plane then entered a 30–45 degree bank, and then rapidly lost altitude and crashed into the hilly terrain.

Who Survived?

All but one of the occupants died from their injuries sustained from impact forces and the post-crash fire, and two people on the ground were also killed.

Juan Loo, the copilot, was found in the wreckage of the cockpit badly burned and still alive, but he later died

Fate Or Destiny?

Seems like it wasn’t her time to go, but I couldn’t find even one photograph of her on the Internet?!

If you can find one, then please let me have it, and I will upload it, with much gratitude.
